It is often said that Labor Day ’unofficially’ ends summer (no matter, we all know September is the best month on the North Fork) and as always it is the weekend we hold the Jan Swanson benefit auction. This is an event where we come together as a community to catch-up, to toast, and primarily to raise funds for our health-care grants program. Have you bought you tickets yet?
This year we will have both a silent and a live auction; this will present an opportunity to bid in a variety of price ranges. The silent auction will be inside, in the smaller backroom of the Wharf House. The live auction items will be on display on the perimeter of the main room, so plan to view these during the cocktail hour or take a look at our web site (list in formation) in advance.
I am personally thankful that Mary Dorman has agreed to be the auctioneer for the live auction. We have some terrific items that will be on the block, including art and an extensive variety of experiences. Many of the lots will be ‘group items’ such as yoga on the beach for ten or a cocktail party for eight. Make plans with your friends to ‘team-up’.
Please note that the silent auction will close prior to the live auction beginning. When the live auction is over plan to stay for a few dances. Ironically, as the dates lay on the calendar this year the first Friday in September is the 1st, the day prior to the auction. Nonetheless, FFF will take place as usual and this month in Orient — at Orient by the Sea from 6-7 p.m. Try to stop by and get the weekend started with your NFWFW friends who are always having fun at this monthly event.
Hopefully you saw the pictures on Facebook from last month of team NFWFWF wearing our new and bright t-shirts. They were such a hit at the bar that we had women from all walks of life buying shirts for themselves and asking to join our club! I look forward to seeing everyone at Founders Landing on Saturday, September 2nd. Please consider wearing pink and white to correspond with our theme, and bring your checkbooks or credit cards! It is going to be a fabulous evening.
