AUGUST 2020 PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Dear North Fork Women,
It’s August and we are awaiting Tropical Storm Isaias. So, this morning, Clare and I took our lightweight furniture off our deck to prepare for the high winds and rain. According to the Weather Channel, the North Fork is not in the cone of this storm, but we’re hoping for some rain to help our burned-out lawn and my very fried vegetable garden.
Enough for the weather forecast and my gardening struggles. I have some exciting news to share with you today. For more than twenty years, NFWFWF has celebrated the end of summer by hosting a Labor Day event that grew from an auction in a member’s backyard to an event at the beautiful Wharf House at Founder’s Landing. It included entertainment, a silent auction, and most recently a raffle with a winning cash prize of $10,000. At our Zoom Board meeting on Saturday we finalized plans for the 2020 Summer Sunset Benefit to be held on Saturday, September 5.
As you have probably guessed, our event this year will be virtual and it will include the announcement of our silent auction winners, the drawing of our grand prize $10,000 raffle ticket winner and entertainment by a world-known, hall of fame athlete.
Here are the details:
- The Auction – We will open the on-line auction on or around August 14. The auction will include artwork, gift cards and gift baskets from local businesses, a Celestron Nexstar telescope, wine offerings, and other exciting prizes.
- The Raffle – We continue to sell our $100 raffle tickets for three $500 and one grand prize $10,000 cash raffle. The winning raffle tickets will be drawn at the September 5th event. Speaking of the raffle we are limiting our sale to 300 tickets, so if you have not yet bought a ticket, you can purchase one at nortforkwomen.org.
- The Entertainment – We are fortunate and extremely excited to have Diana Nyad join us at our event. Diana is world known for her long-distance swimming achievements, but she is also an author, a journalist and a motivational speaker. Diana will spend some time with us, sharing her experiences in the water, including her 2013, record-breaking swim from Cuba to Florida – 110.86 miles in 52 hours, 54 minutes and 18 seconds. I can’t wait to hear inspirational message to us.
You will hear more about all of this in our weekly blasts over the next couple of weeks. We encourage everyone to participate in this virtual event and we look forward to seeing you on September 5th.
Have a wonderful August.
Sincerely,
Chris P’Simer
