I have a strong recollection from when I was in grade school about the class calendar in the month of March, it always had a lion and a lamb on it. March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb was the explanation. As mid-March continues to roar upon us, all we (and our flowers) can do is to hope the recent cold and unpleasant weather will be followed soon by more mild and sunny days. Believe it or not the first day of Spring is on Monday!
The cold had no impact on the “Women’s Words Café” reading that NFWFWF presented earlier this month at Poquatuck Hall. The event was very well attended by our membership and was a terrific evening of performance, poetry, and real life drama. Thank you to our artists: Liz Primamore, Elaine Sexton, Karen Ludwaig, and Roma Baran.
With the ACA under attack and the news screaming out ‘repeal and replace’ it is understandable that many of us are concerned about our health care coverage. The premiums, the deductible, the eligibility, the subsidies; all are under review. This change to current healthcare coverage was a political promise made, however keep in mind that any changes would require both the House and Senate approval. The Board is watching for concreate changes and grants may be available for some medical needs coverage that is lost due to any amendments. Let’s all stay tuned on this topic.

One of my primary goals this year is to improve our outreach to individuals who are in need of our services, but may not be asking for help or who may not be known to us. There are authentic needs in our community, of this I am certain. Pride cometh before the fall, perhaps literally in this weather and for some of our members who are too proud to ask for help you could be our outreach. We want to help and our assistance is confidential.
I am looking forward to celebrating the many contributions of Mary D. Dorman at the Founders Award presentation this Saturday evening at Bedell Cellars in Cutchogue. See you there.
